Dr. Pautler is a senior partner with the Retina Vitreous Associates of Florida. He graduated with high honors from the University of Florida where he was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma honor society and was listed as an outstanding student in Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. He was selected for early admission into medical school at the University of South Florida where he served as president to the freshman medical school class. His postgraduate education included internship at the University of South Carolina and residency in ophthalmology at the University of South Florida. He continued his training at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami completing a fellowship in medical retina/macular disease under the world-renowned professor J. Donald M. Gass, MD. He was awarded the Clinical Diagnosis Award and continued at Bascom Palmer to complete a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery.

Since completing his formal education, Doctor Pautler continues to participate in education. He is a principal investigator in clinical research and was appointed Clinical Associate Professor at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, where he was awarded the awarded the Alumnus of the Year award in 2019. He teaches courses to fellow ophthalmologists at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, which culminated in his receiving the Achievement Award in 2017. Dr. Pautler has published over 50 peer-reviewed medical articles including book chapters on various ophthalmic topics.

Doctor Pautler has demonstrated his commitment to the care of his patients. Outside his office hours, he advocated for patients as president of the Florida affiliate of the American Diabetes Association and the Tampa Bay Ophthalmological Society. He offered free diabetic screening exams and was appointed Chairman of Diabetes 2000, a committee of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology. He has been named numerous times in the listing of Best Doctors in America (1998 to present) and Castle Connolly Top Doctor (2017 to present). Dr. Pautler offers personalized attention to his patients, appreciating the importance of weighing individual patient values in determining the best treatment options.He has offices in Tampa and Temple Terrace and performs surgery at Adventist Hospital in Tampa.
