Removal of retained lens fragments and insertion of secondary anterior chamber intraocular lens
The above photo shows a piece of the lens being sucked up off of the retina before being fragmented and removed from the eye.
Here the fragment has been elevated away from the retina and the ultrasound is used to break up the piece and suck it out of the eye. The light on the left is used to both illuminate the lens fragment and to stabilize it.
This 70 year old woman had cataract surgery 2 days previously. At the time of surgery some of the cataract lens dislocated into the vitreous cavity. The operating surgeon chose not to insert an intraocular lens at the time of the cataract surgery. This video shows the removal of the lens fragments and the insertion of the secondary intraocular lens.
